The Story of Kitesurfing Lanka
Kitesurfing Lanka was founded over a decade ago by two passionate kiters: Dilsiri Welikala, Sri Lanka’s first local kite instructor, and Frenchman Léo Moret. The story of how they met and went on to establish the first kite camp in Kalpitiya is a testament to their shared love for kitesurfing and their commitment to sharing it with others. From the very beginning, they envisioned creating a professional Kiteschool Sri Lanka where both beginners and advanced riders could learn safely and enjoyably.
Located on Sri Lanka’s west coast in Kalpitiya, our beach resort offers more than just a place to stay. We aim to create a welcoming, inclusive community where guests can connect with one another and with nature. Our 8-acre property features a beautiful lagoon, direct beachfront access, and lovingly maintained gardens that provide a peaceful escape from the outside world.
At Kitesurfing Lanka, there is something for everyone, regardless of interests or budget. We offer a range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly glamping to comfortable bungalows and a private villa. Full-board packages with delicious buffet meals are available at our on-site restaurant. Guests can also take advantage of our professional Kite Rental Sri Lanka services, ensuring easy access to high-quality gear for both kitesurfing and wingfoiling adventures.

Sustainability
The Kommune Collective: growing together
What started out as the Kite Green Initiative has now grown into a diverse network of meaningful projects that go far beyond environmental action. Over the years, we’ve launched educational exchanges, artist residencies, social enterprise partnerships, mangrove restoration, youth empowerment initiatives, and sustainable tourism collaborations — many of which now involve people from around the globe.
To reflect this broader impact and community spirit, we’ve rebranded the initiative as The Kommune Collective. It’s not just about kitesurfing or green practices anymore — it’s about people coming together to create lasting change, both locally and internationally.
