First, you'll visit the ancient royal city of Anuradhapura which is famous for its temples, palace dagobas, well-preserved ruins and the sacred fig tree; Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Anuradhapura is still an active temple and place of worship. Both the local population and visitors from abroad come here every weekend to pray and make a special offerings with fruits and lotus flowers.
Then in the early afternoon you'll climb up the mountain peak of Mihintale near Anuradhapura. Mihintale is believed to be the origin of Buddhism in Sri Lanka and the temple at the top of the mountain is a popular pilgrimage site. From the top of the mountain you'll have a magical view over the whole Cultural Triangle.
