The Return of a Legend: Why Fabio Ingrosso is back in the Kalpitiya Lagoon

There’s a specific kind of magic that happens when the wind meets the Puttalam Peninsula. But for Fabio Ingrosso, this lagoon carries more than just 20 knots of steady wind.

After seven years away following the fatal end of his previous business in Sri Lanka, Fabio returned to Kalpitiya this season. For those who saw him ride, one thing was certain: the fire never left. Watching him on the water was a masterclass in pure trick density, finished with a smile that looks exactly like a child’s. This is what true passion for the sport looks like after more than 20 years in the game.

With his concept “Above the Water,” Fabio follows only the best conditions in the world. So, why Kalpitiya? Because for a 6-time world champion and pioneer who has coached legends like Mikaili Sol and Maxime Chabloz, the combination of steady wind and butter-flat water here remains world-class.

More Than Just Kitesurfing

Tucked away on 8 acres of tropical freedom, Kitesurfing Lanka isn’t just a spot—it’s a lifestyle hub. This recent collaboration was where adrenaline met a deep, slow connection to nature.

While Fabio deconstructed riding techniques with the same precision he used to crown world champions, his wife Lucia Pele provided the perfect balance. Her story is one of resilience; after a life-changing accident in 2006, she rebuilt her body through yoga and years of retreat in India.

As a Yoga Therapist and IKO Coach, Lucia doesn’t just “stretch” her students. She prepares their joints and minds for the force of the wind. As she said during the camp: “The golden hour in Sri Lanka is magical”—and there was no better place to experience it than on our yoga deck before the afternoon wind kicks in.

A Celebration of Sport and Land

The weeks with Fabio and Lucia were designed to be a celebration of both the sport and the island. From exploring the islets and reefs of the north to spotting dolphins breaking the surface at sunrise, it was an all-day, every-day kind of adventure.

Whether our guests were chasing their first freestyle moves or refining high-performance tricks, it was a unique chance to learn from the best in the business, right back in the place where it all started.

The collaboration with Fabio and Lucia captured the true spirit of Kalpitiya: the thrill of the sport balanced by the grounding nature of the land. It was a reminder that the real magic happens when you stay fully present—on the water, in nature, and in the moment.
